Fact: Many search engines including Google ignore meta tags due to its rampant abuse by some webmasters. The only important placed on meta tags these days is actually the meta description tag, which appears as the description for the corresponding page on search engines that use inktomi such as MSN. Meta tags are virtually irrelevant in the ranking algorithm of the top engines but many people use them in belief that they are still one of the major optimization strategies. |
